WHO SHOULD HAVE A MEDICAL DRIVING ASSESSMENT?
A person who has changes to their medical condition e.g. Stroke, Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Diabetes – fractures or injuries to the head or spine or simply the ageing process which can affect your ability to drive safely.
If your doctor has any concerns about your skills for driving they will refer you to an Occupational Therapist for a driving assessment.
Your driver’s license application may require you to provide a signed medical certificate, therefore your doctor may request a medical driving assessment before they are able to sign the certificate.
Able-2-Drive uses the evidence based Pearson’s DriveSafe and DriveAware Professional Assessment Tool which was developed at the University of Sydney.
